>>but the US forced the poor to use ERs for basic care before we had the ACA

We force many more people to ERs today than before simply because physicians refer them. If you go in a doctors office with chest pain today you may well end up in the ER. In fact, if you call a doctors today wanting emergency treatment you’ll be referred to the Er.

And I’d you go to an “urgent care facility” needing more than a couple stitches, yep, you’re referred to the ER. IF YOU NEED ANY treatment on a weekend, ER. And in many places if you have Medicaid, ER.

The ER isn’t about the poor. It is mostly about hours of operation and the type of care required.
