Yes, we could raise taxes by $1 trillion, but are there enough rich people to absorb that? What happens when the 99% get hit with new taxes they can't afford for benefits that are small in comparison, because the bottom 50% consume 90% of the Entitlements? You'll get a revolt and Democrats will lose any traction in the polls they think they're getting. If it were me, I'd cut back Entitlements to what the citizens paid into the system, plus a reasonable rate of return, not a penny more. Most of today's Entitlement recipients are getting far more than they put in, which is why it has become a ponzi scheme, with the next two generations paying for the retirements and health care of the current retired generation. Local and State Pensions are even worse in their wholesale theft and fraud, taking from the citizens to fund posh retirements for public pensioners. None of it is sustainable from a mathematical standpoint. Until the Democrats go back to school and learn math and until the GOP starts acting like responsible adults and not acting like profligate drunken sailors with our money, we won't solve this problem.
