Dwight,

Bad news always seems to drown out the good. One has to be very suspicious of the edited news one hears SHOUTED in the media. Better is to try to get all the facts and then try to decide which ones are important and which aren't by oneself.

Many tech companies have been pounding the table on Europe for several months already...CPQ particularly, CA, even BAY and I believe INTC mentioned an improving Europe in their last CC...the problem is that Asia news has drowned out Europe conditions whenever they were mentioned.

DK,

This is true. I was at a Morgan Stanley conf. in Scottsdale a few days ago to see a presentation by Ascend Communications. (ASND) The CEO clearly stated that Europe was picking up and that they were seeing considerable RFP (request for proposal) activity out of Europe.

By the way, with the good news from INTC, I would urge people to consider the network stocks again. They have been beaten down badly since October, yet the internet is not a business that is going away any time soon (all those INTC processors go into computers that have modems and that are used to access the internet).

I very much like ASND (which provides RAS/RAC and core switching for the internet backbone (which, under a new Moore's law, doubles every 3.6 months)). I also like PAIRGAIN Tech. (PAIR) (which has 70% of the xDSL market). DSL has been touted by Bill Gates as the next best way for ramping onto the net. Before investing, check out the ASND and PAIR threads.
