From the article is true;

"I wouldn't consider it to be a dangerous intersection. It's tragic, definitely, what happened.
As long as you follow the rules of the road and you stop when you should be, I don't find it that dangerous."

The intersection when properly stopped at has ample view both ways of Hwy 35. The Trees do not obstruct the view from the stop signs. Many drivers in all types of vehicles, Not only trucks tend to break rules when they think no one is watching.
Under Harper the federal government began a move to implement electronic monitoring of all commercial drivers by the use of on board taco-graphs.

However the Liberals have failed to follow through after Trudeau was elected. and have watered down the strength by limiting mandatory compliance to only vehicles which operate in more than one province. Those which operate in only their home province would be exempt. Bad driving habits are not limited to only those who drive clean across the country. The cost of electronic monitoring units is a couple of thousand $ installed. Peanuts when considered in relationship to a 3 to $500,000 fully equipped commercial truck or bus.

These units can be programed to monitor every move the driver does right down to opening the passenger door to pick up a passenger. (Disallowed by many companies as the passenger may distract the drivers attention) These units can allow the office to geographically locate where the vehicle is at any time, if it is stopped or moving and at what speed by simply bringing up the unit and driver on a office screen. With todays communications the operator is as far away as their cell phone. In many cases direct contact via two way radio.

The unit shows if the driver is operating in the wrong gear using excessive fuel, over reving or needlessly lugging the engine, applying braking only to the trailer via the hand valve or using the foot pedal to employ maximum braking power.

At the request of a law enforcement official (Police, DOT) with the touch of a button a record of the last 14 days operating is printed out for inspection. Violation tickets can be issued on data recorded. And they will stand up in any court of law. At the end of each day the driver can print out the days activity and attache it to his or her time card. A card reader (Electronic) flags bad habits or violations for management scrutiny.

Good drivers don't mind them at all. The on board graph protects them from false reports from the public. They make good drivers out of some who are a bit careless, and provides management with the tool necessary to the ones who are a dangerous on the road.

The federal government needs to act and include their use as part of the authority of the National Safety code which applies to All commercial vehicles in the country .

You said; ethnicity so far as we know at this point, had zero to do with the crash.

There is NO point where if they have passed the class one drivers test that,

The color of ones skin, The wearing of a Turbin or style of cloths, The food they eat, The spirit they worship, The language of their Mother tongue, Their ethnic background, or Sexual orientation has or had anything to do with the cause of the crash.

Suggesting any connection is totally false, Could never honestly be substantiated.

Not meaning to be nasty. Just don't subscribe to the thought train.
