It is one way the Republicans feed their military industrial complex masters; and defeat the Democrats at the polls with their pornographic patriotism.

<,

We're spending more on the military now than we spent during the Cold War. The USSR fell in 1991. Military spending was $500 billion (a good chunk of that was pure waste. Under Carter, Ford, and Nixon it was far lower, in the $300 billion area).

Today, military spending is closer to $700 billion. 54% of the budget is military spending. They're not fiscal conservatives. They're power shoppers who spend money that hasn't been created yet. Then they cut taxes so they can bankrupt us faster.

Does the phrase "Time Value of Money" mean anything at all to you?

54% of the budget is military spending.

2018 Department of Defense budget
$574 billion

Total Budget
$4.094 trillion [1] (requested)
en.wikipedia.org

574/4094 = .140202...

So 14 percent not 54 percent.

Throw in the Department of Energy's nuclear weapons related programs gets you to about 14 and a third percent.

Toss in the Department of Veterans Affairs - Its social not directly military, but its for people who were in the military and wouldn't need to exist without the military. Perhaps a bigger objection is that its for past military activity nor present. But still I'll add it in anyway. Now your up to about 16 and a third.

Lets try to stretch things... Throw in the Coast Guard (even though its under Homeland Security not Defense, and it mostly does, rescues, inspections, and law enforcement). Now your up to about 16 and a half percent.
