A couple of thousand dollars not properly vetted by the NRA is at worst a minor technical violation of some rule, and at best (for them) of absolutely no consequence.

Whether they violated the law by not screening out contributions they should have or not, it was a much smaller thing than en.wikipedia.org which was apparently over 100 times the size of the NRA thing. And even the much larger Democratic party recipept of foreign funds was (for the party, not so much for the individuals contributing or bundling contributions) a minor technical violation, and one that had essentially zero impact on elections. The NRA getting a couple of thousand dollars would have even less political impact. If they got it improperly (and to the extent its from American's living in Russia it wouldn't be illegal) then they can follow the Democratic parties policy and return the money.
