1 Analyst said 1.05, that doesn't make it THE whisper #. It seemed that most were saying .94-.95, and some were still thinking they were gonna miss (see: T Kurlak, H&Q. Paine Webber amongst others. besides after missing the previous Q, and w/ the Asian situation frightening everyone, how do you have a whisper of 16.7% higher than est.

Anyway just listened to CC on AudioNet (they cut you off when the questions start), and it sounded good. A few things to note. The lower tax rate added .04. Also next year the est tax rate will fall from 34.8 to 34%. Also the warrants that come due will add another 2B in cash, while the shares are already being accounted for in the dilutive # they released. Also General expenses will fall 4 - 5% from Q4. Europe was +33% sequentially, while they said Japan/Asia was soft, but saw no signs of more slowing or growing at this point. Flash Memory rev was flat, and prices firming. There was more, and I took some notes, but thats it for now.

1. If the whisper number is 1.05, the price for INTC would have to be above $80. It was quoted by an analyst weeks ago but nobody believed in it apprently.

2. This company is in the phase of product transion. I don't know if they can ramp up pentium II successfully, neither. The game of INTC is simple. They keep improving their yield -> cost down. At the same time, they cut price to boost demand -> create revenue. As long as the demand for PC is strong, it's hard to predict the resulting margin will be up or down. They can control the cost in many ways.

That $1.05 whisper number was put out there by the shorts in Intel's stock. This happens to a lot of tech companies. They throw out an outrageous number that has very little chance of being hit then the media jumps on it reporting that the company missed the whisper number and the market reacts accordingly. Most whisper numbers were in the $0.93-.95 range for Intel.

What is more important to the stock's performance is how analysts react to what is said during the conference call! The next 6 months is what everyone wants to know and what the market is concerned about. Can't change the past. The market usually looks 6 months in advance.
