Very good point, I never really relied on matches... but very excellent idea... When we did some long range off shore sailing without refrigeration in our 30 foot Catalina sailboat, we used to keep our fresh eggs covered in wax to stay fresh, they would stay fresh for a very long time without any refrigeration... We kept plenty of boxes of uncooked pasta on board, we could boil sea water in our galley and cook up the pasta, and the sea salt would flavor the pasta very nicely... GZ
