Hello Strenlich,
You asked about the difference between an impact mill and a pulverizer. A pulverizer is when feed gravel is fed between two round steel or ceramic discs. The discs are tight against each other. One turns against the other. The feed is forced by centrifugal forces. The particles to get out from between the discs are ground to size. The principle is the same as the old wind mill type flour mills where stones were the discs. It is a lab device more than anything else. Commercially, ores are generally tumbled in huge drums that contain steel or ceramic balls or very long heavy steel rods. The ore is crushed and ground by weight and attrition.
An impact pulverizer can be commercially used, but for very hard rocks the wear and repair economics are not good. In this method we have an impeller that the feed is dropped into. It propells the feed against a hard iron surface. The gravels are compressed upon hitting the hard surface. When they decompress they tend to fracture along crystallized lattice lines. However, when they hit the hard surface the crystalline material also has a tendency to smash and break across the lattice lines. Amorphous material without crystalline structure just smashes to dust in an impact pulverizer. The impact breakers and disc pulverizers usually work with a dry feed. The Ball mills work with water and slurries. This is a generalized overview. There are all kinds of variations of these devices. mike
