The meme was for 2015 2015 United States federal budget Total expenditures $3.90 trillion (requested) $3.688 trillion (actual) [3] 20.6% of GDP National Defense + Overseas Contingency Operations $620.562 bil en.wikipedia.org So about 16.82%. That's higher than my previous calculation since even though the regular defense budget is higher now we no longer have a separate "Overseas Contingency Operations" budget item, and also because total government spending has gone up from 2015 ($3.249 tril) to 2017 (last finished fiscal year)- $4.147 tril.
