Seems like we don't know very much about Hominid evolution. Imagine how incomplete our understanding of dinosaurs is.

Hey, these are stunning revelations, though DNA studies on modern Homo Sapiens would suggest that these evidences of earlier hominids must be from other species than our own. After all, many other primates have been observed breaking bones with tools to retrieve marrow.

As a side note, birds too have been observed doing this - dropping bones from high in the air to break them on rocky ground. However, such activity is not too likely to leave markings that could be confused with using tools.

Still, this is fascinating stuff.
