Michael,

I don't know much about this but I assume the first part of the trade would have been made in December.

Michael,

The Forbes article says "maybe" 15% rise, and groups Nextel with other stocks. I didn't see much to support the idea that Nextel was shorted against the box to defer capital gains into '98. Hasn't the short interest been about 20M for many months, long before the need to defer capital gains, and long before the stock broke the teens?

I would need more data before I really go along with the above. We'll see by the Jan. 20 tax deadline how many shorted for tax reasons. These types of effects are nice to know about if one plans on moving into (or out of) a stock. For someone that already holds Nextel long-term, these type of effects are noise.

Regards,
Rob
