I think you can understand why the various principles are desperate to pull Manafort off the table. And it explains why Manafort was a) Apparently first on Mueller's radar. b) Why Mueller is squeezing Manafort so hard to flip. There is so many unanswered questions with respect to Manafort. Not the least of which is why did he get the top position in the campaign? The explanation that Manafort was willing to work for free doesn't really stand up. And, while he has some campaign experience, that was around the Jimmy Carter days. Lots of things have changed since then.
