Bret Easton Ellis: ‘Leftist Hysteria,’ Thought Police Will Create Many More Kanyes

Screenwriter and author Bret Easton Ellis believes there’s a backlash brewing against “leftist hysteria” in Hollywood and sees a future where more celebrities, such as Kanye West, rebel against the liberal orthodoxy that has taken over Tinseltown.

“As someone who considers themselves a disillusioned Gen-X’er, I think there IS a backlash brewing against leftist hysteria. What I used to semi-align myself with has no answers for anything right now, just constant bitching and finding ways to delegitimize an election,” Ellis told the Observer.

“That is not a plan for 2020, and if I was a hardcore Democrat I’d be very worried despite the blue wave of 2018, that may or may not fully arrive,” the American Psycho said.

Indeed the saga of Kanye West embracing President Donald Trump has come more as a confirmation for Ellis, reinforcing a prediction he made months ago.

Speaking specifically of West’s rebellion against liberal groupthink, Ellis said: “I don’t know if Kanye was red pilled exactly,” a reference to how some people are drawn toward and eventually convert to conservatism. “Kanye does not do this in a systematic or literal way: it’s sweeping, metaphorical and inchoate and in the age of digital literal-mindedness.”

Ellis sees the seeds for the coming crop of celebrity rebels, sown into the very soil of Hollywood itself:

Hollywood is both hysterically emotional about its liberalism, but it’s locked in a major hypocrisy because it is one of the least inclusive capitalist societies that exists—pure corporate culture with corporate rules. It’s about caving in creatively to the global marketplace and, for example, if that means no gay characters in movies because they won’t play in certain territories then so be it. And as I’ve always liked to point out: Beverly Hills voted for Trump in 2016—one of the only bits of red out here in a sea of blue, and that fact does not fit into a neat narrative about So-Cal Hollywood liberalism.

In July, Ellis was harassed and screamed at by people in the Sunset Tower in Los Angeles, who accused him of being a “Trump apologist” and of “colluding with Russia.” This, after Ellis merely suggested that liberals “get a grip” on their emotions and stop “virtue signaling” when it came to Trump:

The American Psycho writer recently observed on his podcast, the Bret East Ellis Podcast, that by overreacting to Trump, the left was actually letting him win:

You can dislike the fact that Trump was elected, yes, definitely, and yet still understand and accept ultimately that he was elected this time around. Or you can have a complete mental and emotional collapse and let the Trump presidency define you, which I think is absurd. … If you are still losing your sh*t about Trump, I think you should probably go to a shrink and not let the bad man that was elected define your self-victimization and your life. You are letting him win.

Those insights formed the basis for Ellis’ prediction, now apparently being fulfilled, at least in-part, by Kanye West.

TWITTER BANNING CONSERVATIVES FOR POSTING FACTS
Although Congress has focused on Facebook’s alleged censorship in recent weeks, Twitter continues to engage in mass bans of conservatives with little outside scrutiny. Increasingly, these bans come after users post “hate facts” — statements that are factually true, but politically inconvenient for progressives.

The most high-profile individual to be banned on this basis was Islam critic Tommy Robinson, who received a permanent ban from Twitter after he posted statistics showing that Muslims are vastly overrepresented in child grooming gangs in the U.K. Robinson is now taking Twitter to court to prove that “facts are now treated as hate.”

The censorship of British accounts is tied to increasing pressure from European governments for social media platforms to censor their users. Robinson claims that 10,000 Twitter accounts have been closed at the request of the U.K. government over alleged “hate.”

There are now concerns that the accounts of American users are also being shut down at the request of European governments. Nick Monroe, an independent journalist based in America, says he was banned from the platform after he began an investigation of Tell MAMA, an “anti-Islamophobia” organization based in the U.K.

The Home Affairs Select Committee, made up of lawmakers from all British political parties, has previously pressured Twitter into suspending accounts accused of “Islamophobia” by Tell MAMA. Faith Matters, the group that runs Tell MAMA, has previously provided evidence to the committee, and has been referenced during committee discussions of online “hate speech.”

Monroe says Twitter did not inform him of why his account was banned, nor highlight any particular rule-violating tweet. Breitbart News reached out to Twitter for comment — a spokeswoman said that the company “[doesn’t] comment on individual accounts for privacy and security reasons.”

Monroe’s account, which appeared to be permanently banned, was restored without explanation after Breitbart News reached out to Twitter for comment and after Monroe publicized the story on his blog.

Even when European politics aren’t involved, Twitter still punishes conservatives for making factual claims. Conservative twitter user Mark Samenfink had his account locked after claiming that black-on-black homicide was more common than other types of homicide and implying that Islamic terror attacks were more common than non-Islamic terror attacks.

Despite an appeal, Twitter refused to unlock Samenfink’s account until the 7-day suspension period had expired.

Twitter also fails to address attempts by left-wingers to game its reporting system. Pro-Israel account Ozraeli Dave was hit with a temporary suspension over a tweet in which he called out an anti-semitic tweet from another user.

Back from the one-week Twitter suspension - at least for now. Will I receive another one or even a permanent account ban, all for the crime of tweets exposing antisemites?

Lunar Archivist, a critic of far-left “Social Justice Warriors”, had his account locked after mocking the phrase “Kill All Men,” a misandrist meme pushed by feminists in pop culture.

Lunar Archivist@LunarArchivist

So, let me get this straight, @TwitterSupport and @jack: I had my account locked for jokingly using the "Kill All Men" hashtag while referring to an issue of "Wonder Woman" and was forced to delete my tweet, but a bunch of people who've been dead serious while using it are fine?

3:57 PM - May 7, 2018

This is to say nothing of the fact that Twitter has permanently banned more high-profile critics of progressivism than any other platform. In addition to Tommy Robinson, journalist Chuck Johnson, internet celebrity Milo Yiannopoulos, former Nixon and Reagan adviser Roger Stone, classical liberal YouTuber Carl Benjamin are all permanently excluded from the platform. Similar permabans of high-profile progressives are virtually unheard of.

In January, Twitter employees were caught on camera boasting about discriminating against pro-Trump, conservative accounts. One employee discussed shadowbanning political accounts, a practice that Twitter has continually denied using, while another claimed that accounts that expressed an interest in “god, guns, and America” were likely to be flagged as “bots.” Another employee, Mo Norai, explained that Twitter moderators regularly discriminated against accounts deemed to be pro-Trump.

Twitter’s double standards can be seen in the way it handles complaints of abuse against conservatives and individuals linked to conservatives. When the daughters of Islam critic Pamela Geller were bombarded with abuse earlier this year, Twitter did nothing. In fact, some of the abusive tweets remain on the site, undeleted.

If Republican lawmakers want to make an example of a company over political bias and censorship, it’s hard to think of a more clear-cut case than Twitter.

George Soros Dumps Big Money Into U.S. District Attorney Races

“Soros has used his considerable finances and political clout to challenge district attorneys that do not fit into his progressive ideological agenda…”

“I have always harbored an exaggerated view of my self-importance. To put it bluntly, I fancied myself as some kind of god.”

– Billionaire Hedge Fund Operator George Soros, from his own book, “The Alchemy of Finance”

The man who broke the Bank of England, Democratic mega-donor George Soros, uses his wealth and influence in United States elections. Now Soros has moved his concentration to District Attorney races across the country.

Backed by millions in funding from billionaire Soros, the American Civil Liberties Union announced in April 2017 a campaign to target, remove, and replace pro-law enforcement, anti-illegal immigration district attorneys around the country
. Described by the ACLU as “major drivers of mass incarceration, lacking accountability and transparency, and posing obstacles to criminal justice reform,” the ACLU received a $50 million grant from George Soros’ Open Society Foundations in 2014 to turn DA races, according to McClatchyNews Bureau.

The Soros-funded California Justice and Public Safety PAC is invested heavily in the district attorney’s races in Sacramento, Alameda County, and San Diego. Newspapers describe Soros’ campaign funding as “part of a broader effort by the billionaire’s political organization to help progressive candidates running for district attorney across the nation.”

Soros spent $1 million against Bexar County Texas DA Nico LaHood who opposes sanctuary cities, The Daily Caller reported.Soros’ super PAC, Texas Justice & Public Safety, churned out attack ads against LaHood, accusing him of being racist.

“Soros has the routine down,” the Daily Signal reported. “He uses powerhouse Democratic law firm Perkins Coie to set up a super PAC named some variant of ‘Justice & Public Safety.’ The super PAC will surface late in a DA race, using the kind of capital typically reserved for a national political race to fund a series of attack ads benefitting Soros’ preferred candidate, who wins almost every time.” (Perkins Coie is the law firm that compiled the dubious Trump-Russia dossier.)

Philadelphia Justice and Safety, another of Soros’ super PACs, spent $1.6 million in Soros’ money pushing the progressive candidate in 2017.

Pushing “progressive” candidates who won’t seek death sentences, will ignore low-level drug crimes, and won’t imprison people who can’t make bail, is the platform Soros relies on the ACLU to identify. “The hedge-fund tycoon has spent about $10 million since 2015 to back progressive candidates for prosecutor in places as diverse as Chicago, Orlando, Houston, and Shreveport, La., through a network of affiliated super PACs, according to campaign-finance reports,” the Philly Inquirer reported.

Soros’ Florida PAC dropped $1.4 million for television ads in the final weeks of the campaign for progressive candidate Aramis Ayala, ensuring the ouster of the incumbent state attorney for Orange and Osceola Counties. When she took office Ayala immediately announced a moratorium on seeking the death penalty.

Soros was responsible for the defeat of Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, spending a cool $2 million to oust the hard-nosed lawman, who fought illegal immigration.

Incumbents report that Soros’ massive infusion of campaign funds is smothering, and allows the progressive challengers to exponentially out-purchase radio and television advertisements, and flood the airwaves with last minute campaign messaging.

“Billionaire Social Activist George Soros has brought his war against law enforcement to San Diego and he’s spending more than $1 million to support anti-law enforcement candidate Genevieve Jones-Wright for District Attorney,” the threattosandiego.com website states, created by incumbent DA Summer Stephan. The website associates Soros with Antifa groups and anti-law enforcement groups – and is not a stretch in California.

At a recent news conference, “D.A. Stephan and supporters stood with community members and crime victims as they talked about the incumbent district attorney’s track record as victim’s advocate,” the San Diego UT reported. “Some held signs expressing opposition to Soros. One such sign said ‘Outside money doesn’t buy justice.’ Another said, ‘$oro$.’”

In my home town, a PAC controlled by Soros is funding the campaign of a leftist, anti-law enforcement deputy district attorney running to unseat Sacramento District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert. Schubert’s challenger, Noah Phillips blames the fatal police shooting of career criminal Stephon Clark last March as evidence that Schubert, along with the rest of Sacramento County law enforcement, is racially biased. Phillips has raised $750,000, thanks in large part to Soros, who paid for the political ads now running on TV.

One such commercial says, “We need to end racial profiling and police misconduct. And right now the system is broken.”

D.A. Anne Marie Schubert created a statewide law enforcement task force in 2016, which recently arrested the notorious “Golden State Killer,” also known in Sacramento as the “East Area Rapist.” And Schubert has a lengthy history of being tough on crime, wherever it takes her, which in Sacramento, CA, makes her a racist according to the Soros-funded left.

Why is George Soros Buying Democrat Politicians and DAs?

Soros has made personal campaign contributions to numerous Democrat politicians including Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Charlie Rangel, Al Franken, Sherrod Brown, Nancy Pelosi, Al Gore and many more. Additionally, in 2007 and 2008 Soros funded Green For All and the Ella Baker Center, from Soros’ main organization, the Open Society Institute. Van Jones who describes himself as a Communist, led the leader these groups at that time.

According to a recent Association of Mature American Citizens article, Why is George Soros Buying District Attorneys?, “Over the last few years, progressive billionaire George Soros has dumped millions of dollars into district attorney races around the country. Soros has used his considerable finances and political clout to challenge district attorneys that do not fit into his progressive ideological agenda including:”

2015, Scott Colom and Robert Shuler Smith, $400,000

2016, Andrew Warren, Hillsborough County, Fla.

2016, Kim Foxx, Cook County, Ill.

2016, Kim Ogg, Harris County, Texas $600,000

2016, Aramis Ayala, Orlando, Fla., $1.4 million

2017, Larry Krasner Philadelphia, Pa., $1.45 million

2018, Joe Gonzales Bexar County, Texas, $958,000

Should George Soros be determining the outcomes of District Attorneys races around the country?

Why is George Soros Buying District Attorneys?

And before we vote, we must ask ourselves why the American Civil Liberties Union is investing large resources and utilizing its organizational skills in local district attorney races this year.
