From what I've seen so far, Geron won't have a competitive drug approved in less than 3 years, if ever.

Hey, I bought QLTIF some six or seven years ago and look how far they have come[tongue firmly in cheek]. Yes, I agree, this announcement by Geron is not going to lead to anything anytime soon. But look at the press that this story has gotten. From the Geron thread in SI someone said that this was the lead story on one of the major network's nightly news programs. And also was mentioned that 20/20 would be doing a piece on it Friday. Looks like a media circus is developing around this one so I wouldn't be surprised to see the momentum geeks pile on. Wouldn't hold this one past Friday at 3:59pm EST though. Kind of reminds me of the 'Cold Fusion' story. That one also had some roots here in Texas(Texas A&M). Let's at least hope that this isn't the same sort of bad science.
