The word pricing is used exactly ONE TIME in Ciena's last earnings conference call, and in a positive context.

One upside to these comments is that they do reveal that CIEN is feeling pressure from competitive products, and getting aggressive in pricing makes it look like a desperation attempt to hold their customers from defecting. The open line model will produce a much more multi-vendor environment that will free up the single vendor box. This will free up both customer and vendor from the closed lock-in dependence. You will have a much more innovative environment that will also greatly reduce the cyclical lumpiness of purchasing. That will be good for the whole industry as that cut throat single vendor model goes away. That change would be good not bad for CIEN if they spend on innovation and fully embrace the open model- I can see how INFN would be spooking CIEN, Juniper, and NOK - They have invested in a cutting edge paradigm shift that supports the end to end open line break out. I can see how that aggressive pricing would be an attempt to keep their customers in the box of the closed line lock-in in the short term, but Telia and Zayo are not sacrificing freedom and the long term benefits of open systems for the short term pimp protections of closed systems. Both the customers and the vendors will only lose market share unless they embrace the new paradigm IMO- Century link has been very vocal about making the transition. That has created a big delay because it is a huge change for such a big behemoth to make, but they have made the case publicly, and that will keep them competitive in the long run - The open line model will disrupt the entire industry, and I believe INFN is well-positioned for the transition- Time will tell - All that cheap legacy capacity will eventually be integrated into the open -line model, and I think the time is NOW not years down the road, but the old wine skin has to break-
