<<I can't afford to buy the stk, steve. Capital depletion has taken it's toll on my portfolio since last summer.>>

I hear ya ! In the last three years I've owned about six stocks:

INTC/INTCW- mid 95-Jan97- Huge $$$
DELL- 73-92- made $$$ but got out way too soon
WDC- 27-40- made $$$ but got out too late.
ASND- 41-25- lost huge $$$ because I got in too early. Forced to take loss to offset gains. Wound up '97 with a small loss.
MUEI- 16.5-present- huge paper loss because again I pulled the trigger too early and was too stubborn to cut my losses when they warned. New president and COO from DELL is just what this dog needs to spank it on the ass.
CPQ- 58- bought yesterday- 3/4 of what's left of my portfolio.

INTC gave us a peek into CPQ's earnings. Those that waited for the news to come out wil pay more for CPQ tomorrow. I've found that the market will tell you what the earnings are going to be like the day prior to and the day of the report.
A glance at price action of MOT would tell you it was going to miss. So with INTC up again yesterday I pulled the trigger on CPQ at 58. Why CPQ and not INTC ? I just think CPQ has more going for it with component prices plummeting (IMHO Asia is a net pos. for CPQ) and demand still strong (everywhere except Asia). CPQ owns the new sub-$1k market which is the fastest growing segment of PC demand. I don't think CPQ would be selling them if they weren't making $$$. Lastly CPQ splits 2:1 I believe next Tues and reports next Thurs.

With CPQ putting in place what looks to me like a double bottom at around 53-54, good news from INTC, upcoming stock split and good earnings/CC/forward projections, and if the Asians can behave themselves, Mr. Pheiffer might be able to reach over and flip that switch marked "Afterburners" and kick this baby back up where it belongs.

In summary, as beat up as I've been lately I can't afford NOT to be in this stock. It's my best chance to redeem myself for two bad calls. I still believe in ASND and MUEI but my timing sucked. Maybe I'll get it right this time on CPQ.

Regards,
Lee
