Wal-Mart Buys 6,000 Sigma Designs Playback Boards For $2M

FREMONT, Calif. (Dow Jones)--Sigma Designs Inc. (SIGM) said Tuesday Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) purchased 6,000 of its RealMagic NetStream MPEG playback boards for Wal-Mart's new interactive electronics department.

A Sigma Designs spokeswoman said the 6,000 playback boards are valued at nearly $2 million.

In a press release, Sigma said Wal-mart customers will have the ability to preview home videos, CDs and tapes before buying them at interactive Endcaps and kiosks located throughout the department.

Sigma Designs makes MPEG -based multimedia products.
