Not wrong.

Theories that are presumed truth, if the hypothesis was rigorously stated so as to be a search for real truth. If, as Michael Mann did, you simply tried to make the numbers come out, that isn't a search for truth.

"If the experiments properly agree with the expectations then the hypothesis becomes a theory and is considered proven. If the results of all the experiments do not agree with the expected results then the hypothesis is rejected or modified and retested. It should be remembered that the measure of a good test would be that it maximizes the probability of disproving the hypothesis."
