Ask not for whom the bell tolls… I don’t know. That just seemed like a cool thing to say, right about now, given that Harvey Weinstein’s time of reckoning is about to fall. The news breaking today is that the disgraced Hollywood mogul (and impetus for the 2017 break out of the #MeToo movement) will surrender to authorities on Friday in New York. The fallen Hollywood honcho is expected to be charged with preying on Lucia Evans, who told investigators that Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex on him in 2004, sources said. It was not immediately clear if Weinstein will be hit with additional charges related to other victims. I’ve seen at least one other unconfirmed report that he could possibly face stalking charges, as well. Weinstein has been accused of sexual misconduct, assault, and in some cases, outright rape by a number of women, including actresses Mira Sorvino (Her father, actor Paul Sorvino, has said that if he runs into Weinstein, he’ll wish they’d locked him up ), Angelina Jolie, Uma Thurman, Anabella Sciorra, Daryl Hannah, Salma Hayek, Lena Headey, Rose McGowan, Heather Graham, and Rosanna Arquette. Those are just a fraction. In total, somewhere between 70 to 80 women have come forward since the story of his foul behavior was made very public with an article by Ronan Farrow in The New Yorker , in October 2017. The tales range anywhere from inappropriate requests to outright rape. They’re all bad. In the case of Evans, she said she met Weinstein at a nightclub. She was a senior in college and was hoping to break into the movie business. He invited her to meet him during the day at the Miramax office. I’m sure she thought that during the daylight hours, with a respected filmmaker such as Weinstein, this was the opportunity of a lifetime. It didn’t work out that way. Once in the office, he forced himself on her, pulling her head to his crotch. "I said, over and over, 'I don't want to do this, stop, don't,' " she told the magazine. "I tried to get away, but maybe I didn't try hard enough. I didn't want to kick him or fight him." Evans said the hulking Weinstein ultimately "overpowered" her. "I just sort of gave up," she said. Horrible. The Manhattan District Attorney's office and NYPD are handling the case, and because of the nature of the crime, there is no statute of limitations. And it may be more. A special grand jury was also being presented with evidence related to possible financial fraud against Weinstein, but it was not immediately clear if the charges expected Friday include money mishandling allegations. One case against Weinstein that caught particular interest early was that of Paz de la Huerta. The “Boardwalk Empire” actress claims that Weinstein committed forcible rape on her twice, in 2010. She was terrified of him, and hers has been cited as one of the most compelling cases against the producer. She is one of several women who has talked with prosecutors in the case. The charges against Weinstein aren’t confined to New York. There are currently investigations ongoing in Los Angeles and London. Weinstein is being allowed to turn himself in. He’s being treated very lightly, considering he’s a despicable rapist. Seeing him taken down will be the greatest show he’s ever been involved in.themaven.net
