Thor: Ah, the sweet memories of Nusa Dua beach in Bali.

The current exchange rate is 7250 Rph to one US$. I don't know if your favorite beach cabana is still US$7 per nite but I am pretty sure, even with adjustments, it'll be no more than double (in US$ which is actually about 6x in Rph terms).

Both Henry and myself have our points and perspectives - I remember reading about folks from Indochina and Vietnam who got away because they had some tangible gold in their hands. True it might not be edible but at least it gave one a chance to live (and fight another day).

As I write this, things seem to be settling down in the SE Asia currency markets. Almost all major SE currencies have gained abit against US$.

Thor,

I think I know that Cabana. <g> I used to spend a lot of time in Singapopre and would hope over to Bali every so often. Maybe Odi can tell us if all that hype about forest fires and region wide smog cover is done. "Smoke Gets inYour Eyes" is a great song but not my idea of a vacation. <g>

Re gold, I never said it was dead, just suffering in comparison to the alternatives. I also said I thougth Asia and the EMU might both resolve in an inflationary manner. I don't own gold but I have been buying gold stocks since December and since I qualify as one of the 'boys' on wall street does that make it time to sell ;)
