Maurice, I didn't mean to imply there was enough power from RF and solar sources to run present generation cell phones (even the super efficient CDMA!). Just meant to point out that 4 degree Kelvin background microwave radiation wasn't the densest free power available. Guess I got carried away with the reminisces.

I agree that battery of some kind is needed, at the very least to store energy collected from ambient sources. Fuel cells sound great! Can you imagine recharging your wireless phone with a few drops of Smirnoff?
