LOS ANGELES -- The family of a sailor currently serving in the U.S. Navy thought they were being treated to a VIP day on the set of the ABC comedy "Last Man Standing", but it turned out to be so much more. "It's amazing for us to be part of this thing, but I'm so amazed - a bunch of gadflies we are - to be able to keep 'this thing' secret," said actor Tim Allen.

'This thing' is the last scene of the annual Christmas episode for Tim Allen's sitcom, "Last Man Standing." The big secret involved a sailor from the U.S. Navy and his return home from active duty. Petty Officer 1st Class Raymond McKnight joined the cast and crew to try and pull off a major surprise.

His wife and two young sons were told they'd won a contest, and were invited to join other military families to be extras on the set of the show.
