If the logo on the chess site takes awhile to load you might want to look into the availability of a cable modem. Some areas have them available. I run the internet off fiber optic cable for $39 per month. This eliminates the cost of an ISP so net it costs me about $20 or so more than everyone else. But it is faster than ISDN and knocks the sox off 56Kb modems. Also, a friend uses it for trading and he says it stays up even when his regular cable feed goes down. He used to have a NASD Level 3 in his house running off a T-1. He dumped it because the NASD Level 2 off his cable modem was faster and cheaper.
