BeaconEye weighing takeover options

TORONTO, Jan 13 (Reuters) - Laser vision correction specialist BeaconEye Inc (Toronto:BEY.TO - news) said on Tuesday it will look at all options for the beleagured company, including a possible merger with rival TLC The Laser Center Inc (Nasdaq:LZRCF - news).

BeaconEye chairman and president Keith Moore said in a press release that the company ''is continuing to work with its financial advisor to explore options for maximizing shareholder value.''

These options include financing alternatives, potential mergers and acquisitions, and a sale of the company.

The statement came just days after TLC announced on Friday that it was launching a 40-cent-a-share hostile takeover bid for the Mississauga-based company after the two sides failed to come to terms during earlier friendly talks.

BeaconEye directors said they will consider the offer, which includes a condition that at least 90 percent of the company's common shares are tendered to the offer once it is received.

BeaconEye hinted that it would not wait for TLC to formally present its offer before seeking other suitors including ICON Vision Centers Inc and LCA-Vision Inc (Nasdaq:LCAV - news).

Financially strapped BeaconEye also said it had extended the payment period for many of its accounts payable and has deferred payment of certain capital and operating lease obligations, but will require additional funding by early February.

TLC rose 0.15 in light trading on the Toronto Stock Excjange on Tuesday. BeaconEye gained 0.15 to 0.55.

Pappy
Check out the info on ATCI (Autonomous)- they are close to FDA review of their new generation laser. This is why I got so PO'ed at Visx and BEAM. They have spent so much time trying to knife each other that now they have let new players get closer in the manufacturing game. I reasoned that these new laser companies may be able to turn out new machines, but getting them into use is a different story. They will have to go to the establish LVC's to get into the game.
That's one factor why I'm buying LCAV and LVCI.
