Looks like a potential market is closing. I/O Software announced a fingerprint based preboot security system which requires a fingerprint to be verified before allowing the computer to boot. The security system is based on Sony's Fingerprint Identification Unit. The preboot security system is completely self-contained and does not require the host computer to do any actual fingerprint processing, comparisons, enrollment, or storage. Up to 64 users can be enrolled per computer. see www.iosoftware.com

Buck, The reference to biometrics in the Phoenix products was in an annoucement made at the RSA Conference.....RSA is big in security software....Here are the strenghts of the Phoenix product...... Seamlessly integrates of an advanced cryptographic engine into the BIOS. Utilizes digital signature technology to secure the entire boot process from power-on through OS Boot. Provides the means to interface removable tokens such as SmartCards for two-factor authentication. The technology is expandable to support future biometric technology. Secures electronic keys both in storage and processing. Now it would seem that Phoenix is partnering with IBM......It is difficult to follow...but I think the door is there for biometrics......it just might not be open yet. bg ps. Anyone talked to SouthCoast?.....Earnings release date should be coming up in a week or two. Date should be set by now.
