The article you posted is from 2013 when WMT was paying the minimum wage. Today, their average wage is $13 so you see, the author was 100% wrong. Raising wages is and was necessary. But don't forget what WMT had to do to get wages up. They closed 63 Sam's Clubs which means thousands of employees were laid off and WMT laid off 7000 employees.

Still not convinced? Let's look at the stock value even after massive stock buybacks. Then in 2010, they raised wages and look what happened. Amazing isn't it? Let the workers keep a few more pennies and investors are rewarded far more also. Laying off workers is always a sign of trouble so WMT is in trouble. Why? Too many stock buybacks and not enough investments in their workers.
