Does anyone know what this technology is all about? Is China making an end run? Is this good or bad for Qcom? Is it real or vapor?

A Beijing newspaper reports that China has successfully
developed a wireless loop systems for SCDMA, a next-generation digital portable phone format. The format has
passed national confirmation muster. According to the investigation team, the system employs SCDMA, intelligent
antennae and software wireless technology. China has led the world for several years with this home-grown
technology, and holds the intellectual properties rights. The software wireless technology is expected to foster growth
in the wireless communication field and to encourage proliferation of phones in rural regions. The system has been
configured in seven cities, including Chongqing, Chengdu, Hangzhou and Nanjing, for tests. According to test
results, the system is stable and accurate, exceeds a fixed communication distance of 10 km, and improves upon the
sound quality afforded by GSM digital systems. Mass production is expected soon.

Ramsey, I can't make it down to SD for shareholder's meeting but will subsidize your visit with two jelly doughnuts and a ding-dong if you'll go. Seriously, think it would be terrific if we could get as many folks from this thread as possible to attend, regret that I cannot. Next year for sure. Look forward to all the inside scam you guys can dig up. Regards, Mike Doyle

Ramsey: The QCOM annual meeting was a definite until the Packers won the championship. Now I'll be in SD next week and will most likely forego the Feb return.

BTW I recall some dumb bet (influenced by a bottle of your finest California Cabernet) I made about the next time I was in town.
I didn't think it would be so soon.

Best regards, Ron

Ramsey,

Since you have mentioned you and your friend conversation, you might as well post it for all to read. Just do not scare me again by saying you are out on vacation again. That is more scary than SEA/China problem.

Well. QCOM this time might send my PHD engineer friends to SEA/China to solve that region's problems to give you a good night sleep since they have done so well to standardize, develop and test CDMA phones and stuffs. May be they know better than those Asia government officers and businessmen. Hopefully, those government's KGB? CIA? FBI? won't treat them as spies.

Seriously, You bet I share the same feeling about QCOM as my friends in QCOM. They bet their family lifes and retirement for this company. They and other QCOM employes may as well already hand you some cash when they purchase their homes in your service region directly or indirectly. I am no QCOM lovers except confidence in my friends and Dr. Jacobs and Dr. Viterbi's engineering talents (They shared the same quality - coming from the best engineering school from the world). In fact, I have more confidence than them because they know how much competition is out there to catch QCOM.

I am not sure how much money I will make from this investment. The only thing I know about this investment is that it is so cheap in share price for what QCOM have accomplished so far. Look at TLAB (market value $9 billion vs. sales $1.3 billion), ORCL (MV still $18 billion vs. sales $5 billion), MSFT (MV over $115 billion vs. sales 11 billion), CSCO (MV still 40 billion vs. sales 6 billion). Even ADPT worths more in MV than QCOM before its free fall with an annual sales barely at $1 billion. Look at QCOM (MV 3.5 billion vs. sales 2.1 billion).

The only thing QCOM has to show now is higher profitability (Chuckj's wellfare state arguement). With world leading phone companys such as NOKIA, MOT, LU, etc. still trailing behind to make their first generation CDMA phones and supplying to the world later, we (shareholders) have to doubt about QCOM's not making estimate for this quarter? Well. I want to gather more money to buy this company no matter it meets expections or not.

Good luck to all

Brian H.
