Can anyone explain why there are usually small trade volumes listed before the market opens? Are these errors, Instanet trades or Island trades?

Dear Ms. Lallone, I processed an online application last night for an individual account (already have ira). Everything seemed to go ok, except I have reveived no E-Mail confirmation as of yet.
