California's One Party Corruptocracy Worked by Steve Berman California has become a one-party state and will move Democrats to Fascist corners They'll all tout the fact that California's jungle primary worked--it produced a Democrat vs. a Republican for governor in the general election. Nobody gives John Cox a glimmer of a chance to beat former San Francisco mayor and current Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom in November, but no Republican would have a good chance in left-wing, left-coast California. The jungle primary did work, but not in the way they're claiming. It allowed the Democrats to pick their Republican opponent, with the ultimate goal of having no Republican ever sit on a general election ballot. Were it not for the fact that 12 Democrats were vying for first and second place, it's very possible that Cox wouldn't have made it on the ballot at all. And it led to some really strange bedfellows. In the 39th Congressional District, two Democratic Party affiliated super PACs purchased dozens of Facebook ads touting conservative messages. You don't think that Gavin Newsom would rather have helped John Cox get on the ballot versus facing (Democrat) former L.A. mayor Antonia Villaraigosa? While picking the other side's candidate is a long-practiced tradition, honed to perfection in places like Louisiana, the purpose of California's jungle primary isn't to choose the Republican in the race. It's to eliminate Republicans from politics. In this goal, California Democrats have nearly succeeded. I wouldn't be surprised if they tweaked the jungle primary to give the parties more control to limit candidates on the ballot. And, yes, it would serve them right if some major scandal or other issue took Newsom out of the race and handed the governorship to Cox. I don't wish personal ill on Newsom--but California's march toward a Fascist leftist one-party state won't stop, and may be unstoppable unless Cox, in some Trumpesque impossible dream, wins. themaven.net
