Stephen, >>What do you know..Kurlak also throws cold water on us today-still negative-not impressed-says
INTC will actually have LESS capital spending this year!<<

I don't know where he's coming from here. Usually, Wall Street likes less capital spending...less to have to depreciate over time. Anyway, Intel has been pretty clear about spending $5.4B this year.

Oh well, guess we have to wait for Merced to really get moving again, unless all the new flavors of Pentium II do it in 2H98.

Kurlak on the conference call sounded almost surly. First he asked when Intel planned to get to 50% Pentium II, was it sometime in 2H98. Intel said no, at end of 2Q98, which they have been saying for quite a while, if he would bother to listen. (my words, not Intel's) Kurlak went on record a while ago saying he wouldn't recommend INTC again until they got to 50% PII. Let's watch him on this one. His other question, almost an accusation, was, is it true Intel was selling P200 MMX to HP for $80 so they could make their $799 or so Pentium PC. Intel declined to answer. He then mumbled something and hung up. Probably needed a drink.
