I've used Chrome for years and have never had it pop up a window telling me "click to update". You can tell if Chrome is up-to-date by going to the menu=>Help=>About Chrome. You'll probably get an answer that looks something like this:

Ken,
open Chrome browser...Go to settings(3 dots top right corner)....Click on Help....Click on About Chrome .It will automatically update and will tell you to relaunch browser to complete update.
