Greg,

I really thought that we would have seen your two year target by now. In fact, I re-established a position in SOLP while it was climbing towards $4.50 in response to the warrant repurchase program just a few months ago. My comparative analysis with Winston Resources led me to an incorrect decision when I purchased my SOLP shares.

There is no question that SOLP will hit $6.30 during the next two years. My short sighted approach towards investing may not allow me to wait as long as two years. Currently I plan to hold SOLP as we approach the next earnings release date scheduled in mid-February and possibly trade my holdings for a competitor that has caught my interest by the name of Winston Resources (WRS). Winston Resources should report year end and 4th quarter results sometime in March '98 so the timing could be just right for the switch. I really like WRS under $5.00. Subject 18310

Personally, I am somewhat disappointed in the projections for 1998. Earlier indications from past conference calls the indications were for .40-.42 for the year and then again these numbers should be beaten to make real money. Also I never heard of a CFO attempting to predict earnings over a two year span. A 50% gain is respectable if every firm you happen to pick goes up 50% but in my experience you need firms with 300% potential to offset your laggards. 1997 was an extremely tough year because of my heavy exposure to the micro micro caps. I never was rewarded on many of my accurate calls of firms with much better earnings such as VARL, HAUP, with stellar earnings increases comparisons, sold my potential 5 bagger SFAM way too early and paid very dearly for my three five figure mistakes that I care not to mention. Only made real money in 1997 on my extremely short term trades on GERN and ASYT options trades (Both held from 1-4 days)with one exception I held a very small position VOCLF for a 300% gain during a 2 month holding period. I am convinced as more people are in touch with the internet the stock market will be only a medium for short term daytrading from news driven events especially with microcap firms and fundamentals generally will mean little for them. Also you MUST take profits when you happen to get a run in a microcap stock; you can't be complacent and hope for more as you can when the capitalization of the firm goes up because the larger liquidity lessens the blow of the initial selloff as the momentum begins to fade and the process with the larger caps is much slower and predictable and much easier to manage. You must constantly monitor these tiny companies by the minute and sell them immediately when momentum begins to fade. Also, it doesn't take much volume to bring down theses little stocks down where it usually take a big volume day to bring them up in a like amount. Fundamentals do mean something however, when the capitalization of the firm is great enough to spur analyst following and for continuing as going concern issues. Greg although in the past I have done well with microcaps. Made good money on IOM,PQT,BBY,AXC and AKSEF but with the exceptions of IOM and BBY the rest of them are at or below when I initially purchased them years ago. Timing is everything and opportunities for good execution are getting narrower especially with the internet. When you are getting excellent deals at the moment with the large caps which are more predictable and with similar return potential why bother to beat your head on the wall with the microcaps and get penalized for your bad timing in execution. If you are a glutton for punishment and want to continue to play these smaller companies I have some words of wisdom do not formulate a target price for any microcap stock. Sell immediately when the momentum dries up. This observation is especially more prevalent this past year than it has been in previous years. Don't make the mistake of holding this stock or any other small cap stocks past its time because chances are it probably will be at a lower price the next year.
