>> I like to think I'm pretty good at such things but I don't see any workable alternative that's not two tiered, haves with "insurance" or real insurance or self-pay and have-nots with a lean Medicaid. Which won't fly politically.

A nonegalitarian approach was proposed by skinowski on the other thread, I guess about 10 years ago, which I fully agreed with. We are kind of half way there, IMO. But if the politicians realized it they would croak.

>> The only other thing is to get prices down to where they're broadly affordable. To do that naturally would mean a program to create a surplus of less-regulated providers.

There's lots to be fixed but it isn't insurmountable within the context of a political battle. The critical point, IMO, is that it be a equitable battle with various stakeholders represented. That didn't happen in 2009. It was the smoke-filled-room paradigm, and that a result of a momentarily powerful subgroup doing what was necessary to have its way.

>>Well, that's an improvement in presentation over Trump-will-magically-provide. <g>

Trump is more likely to provide the necessary leadership than anyone else who has tried.
