There are always a number of factors in war and economics. But in this case, many Americans thought it would be pretty easy to pick off Canada as the British were mainly fighting Napoleon and the French over in Europe. The Americans didn't realize that people living in Canada didn't want to be part of the US, despite the fact that most of them were Loyalists who had fled from the US during and right after the Revolution.
