China, for all practical purposes, already owns the seas. Who's going to change that? Are you supposing the US should do that? How could we without using military force?

China doesn't "already own the seas". The US has far more naval power than they do. But it will take intelligence and a concerted group effort to place limits on them. Something that can't be done if Trump continues to act unilaterally. He has to act with other countries and of course he is the last person in the world who would be able to do that.

I think Japan has moved a little beyond the stage of catching babies on bayonets, too.

What do you think has changed in less than a hundred years? Humans are perverse. Anything is possible. Not just for Japan. For any country. Any people. Anywhere.

I am living in the past?

Not really. I am just telling how the other countries in the region view the situation. If you think they have forgotten and forgiven Japan, you are dreaming. The idea of Japan and China working together is a dream for a lot of reasons. They have lots of disputes over lots of things. Cooperation just isn't in the cards.

And Japan may be beyond the whole bayonet thing, but China has not forgotten. Despite Japan's most fervent wishes.

As to China, you are hilarious. So in your view, we should just give up and go home because China has built a few ships and are showing some ambition? Yeah, that is the ticket for a world power. Just turning tail and running...
