What's happened to you? I can't believe that losing an election would turn a liberal into a militarist.

Nothing has happened to me. I studied history. It tells me that humans are perverse. There is nothing surprising or original in that. I am not now nor have I ever been a "militarist", at least as I understand that word. Especially now, given how powerful our weaponry has become.

Why now? Obama wasn't upset by it, and China's intentions were obvious before he left office.

I don't know what you are talking about. He was definitely upset by it. Consider this article from 2016:

South China Sea: Obama urges Beijing to abide by ruling
3 September 2016
US President Barack Obama has urged China to abide by its obligations under an international treaty in its activities in the South China Sea.

He made the comments during a "candid exchange" with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, in Hangzhou before the G20 summit, the White House said.

In July, an international tribunal ruled against Chinese claims to rights in the South China Sea.

China dismissed the ruling and said it would not be bound by it.

The ruling was made by an arbitration tribunal under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), which both China and the country that brought the case - the Philippines - have signed.

The White House said Mr Obama emphasised "the importance for China, as a signatory to UNCLOS, to abide by its obligations under that treaty, which the United States views as critical to maintaining the rules-based international order".

It is true that he is reluctant to use force and prefers to use the rule of law. By the time this ruling came down, it was a little late for him to do much.

As for the stock market--I think it will be OK until Sept or so. After that, who knows. My guess is there will be some sort of severe correction or even a bear market some time after Sept, although maybe not until 2019, whatever the results of the election. I have said this for a long time now: the economy under Trump will mirror his personality, it will be a boom and bust economy. The only question is, when will the bust come? I don't know, but I am pretty sure it will come. We are running huge deficits and while demand for our debt has been strong so far, it will likely falter at some point and will provide more serious competition for investment than it has for some time now.

Yeah he was. Have you forgotten his "pivot to Asia"? He very much understood what China was doing. This was the whole rationale behind the TPP. The idea was to lock all of those countries down and exclude China.

Which Trump blew up. Leaving them no choice but to cut deals with China.
