Yeah. We have the mayor of Irving in the DFW area who absolutely lost it over a Sharia council in that fair city. It is/was strictly voluntary and was not legally binding in any way.

Nothing you say is untrue, but you should do more research on this issue and how hard it is for a Muslim women to then turn to a British court to get redress for the injustice done to her. They risk divorce or being thrown out of their family unit for starters. Fortunately, several European governments are exploring/considering what kind of changes would be feasible. More help can be given these women after they become citizens and have legal rights, but most can go years before they are citizens.
