You have to build to stay in the game. If they sit on the sidelines and let others consolidate the industry we'll never see $50. They're buying good technology and actually managing to integrate it into products that will generate future revenue. It's when they pay big $$ for speculative technology and can't manage to integrate it that you should worry (ex.: Cisco's gigabit failure).

It's a choice of acquisition or R&D - sometimes buying is smarter!

I disagree. I think the market place will reward BAY for their aggressive expansion through aquisition of leading technology companies; especially when these aquisitions lead to large new revenue streams. I think this is very positive.
