IMO. We need to work on an effective world government of sorts. As the world gets more complex, it has always been my contention, we need more worldwide cooperation, in general, not less, for two primary reasons: 1) international cooperation, and so an effective United nations. This is needed for pandemics, cyber defense, nuclear proliferation, international crime, etc. The other variable that seems to be developing is Russia and China working together, and so a a strong NATO to protect the west, as a counter balance to a rising Russian, China, whomever alliance. We cannot operate as totally independent nations forever and survive as a species.
