Greg - You've seen what most neutral observers would regard as a strong pattern of failures to meet commitments from AMD management. Even the most rabid AMD fan would probably agree that Jerry Sanders has been consistently overoptimistic about future prospects for microprocessor yields and shipment levels for the each coming quarter. That's the history. The lesson AMD fans seem to draw is "but this time it will be different and they really will get the yield straight and they really will ship all the chips that they promise". But a "historian" would suggest that they are more likely to miss their goals again.

However, as an added bonus, this time Sanders is careful to say that they are in a high risk gamble to pull the yield up. His colorful phrase is "very pregnant". So what lesson should the fans draw. As I see it, it is hardly a slam dunk scenario. They may pull it out. I might flip ten heads in a row with an honest silver dollar. But the odds are against it.

That's what I meant. By the way, I think you are right about doomed.

Best regards,
Burt
