Guns possibly may have made things worse. There was one ghetto, in Poland I think, where there were a couple of rifles. The first Nazis that showed up, got shot. A bunch returned and leveled the place and hauled all of the survivors off.

A few, or even a lot, of civilian weapons aren't a lot of use in the face of armored vehicles and heavy weapons. Not to mention, the training and discipline. The whole idea is stupid.
