Darleen,

<<There is just to vast a econmic gap forming here in LA. >>

It is this vast economic gap that often leads to the violence that so many of us deplore. I am not naive enough to believe that all we have to do is throw gobs of money at these issues and they will go away ... that is not the case. But IMHO there is going to have to be some very fundamental changes in the way people view themselves, their needs, their sense of values, the society they live in and their fellow human beings, if homo sapien is to survive.

I would bet that if there were a place that all of us could go, where we were only required to work 3-4 hours per day, where our work provided the basic necessities, and where the rest of our free time could be for pursuing our other real interests, or just for playing, that would not sound too bad to many of us. I often wonder what motivates us to work those 14 hour days .... so that we can have ... what? This I am sure sounds very socialistic to many .... but there are societies that have functioned within that type of framework - and been very successful - perhaps not as we would define it .... but their members were self-sufficient, productive and most of all .... they seemed to be happy.
