Re -- VPN's and NOC switch..

Seems to me that the simplest case of a VPN, would be a network of one, which is a regular dial-up user. Of course there are cost/performance considerations for ISP's implement such an approach.

Indeed. The NOC 4000 is complementary to Bay's 5000 MSX/5399, which would be deployed at service providers' points of presence. A standard protocol like L2TP would allow a tunnel to be built beween the 5399 and the NOC 4000, providing what is effectively a virtual private network across the Internet.

New Oak also provides PC client software, so this certainly allows cable modem users to build secure tunnels to their corporate network. I might just get rid of my ISDN line, after all...
