Violetta,

Despite conventional press coverage of Korean gold sales, Asians, in general, are net buyers of gold to protect against further currency devaluations. There is near hysterical short covering on gold in the Far East.

As their markets remain in turmoil, gold buying will remain strong. It is said that when markets fluctuate wildly, as is now happening in that region's stock markets, they are seeking direction. Such volatility often precedes a sustained move to the upside or down. If gold sales remain strong in Asia, I think the market is betting on further erosion in those economies.

I have not seen a study on diamonds, but I did see a plot of POG along with a plot of price of oil. The correlation is astonishing!
