No, he just told his disciples to do so on one occasion.

We know they took that advice because when they came to arrest Jesus, Peter pulled a blade and cut off one of their ears. Jesus stopped Peter and reattached the ear on the man's head.

John 18: 10 Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant and cut off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.)

Luke 22: 51 But Jesus answered, “No more” of this! And He touched the man’s ear and healed him.
