One has to use a little common sense here. No passports were required in the US prior to 1861. American was a vast land with a sparse population in 1776. In 2018 there are 2 billion Chinese and 1.5 billion Indians that would love to reside in the USA and can be here in a matter of hours.

I have no interest in debating this further, if this is not clear then nothing I can add would clarify.

And that is why the wall is so important and so needed. To keep that person...those people outside the jurisdiction of the US constitution.
