To: GROUND ZERO™ who wrote (123 ) 6/28/2018 8:12:26 PM From: Don Green Read Replies (2) | Respond to of 333 GZ as we both know this is something we disagree on I completely agree with you about the rec issue, that's really just an individual preference and I wouldn't ask someone to remove their rec, that seems out of place... but , I see no problem with a moderator banning someone if they violate the rules of that thread... banning the moderator so the moderator's questions to that poster cannot be seen is inappropriate and rude ...someone who places me on ignore on one of the forums I moderate would most definitely be deleted from the list of participants engaging in dialogue on that forum... I think having a moderator telling someone to recommend or not to or to remove a recommendation of another users post is inappropriate and rude . Which was one of the reason sfor my Ignoring them. Also the moderator can easily communicate to a poster who has them on ignore by using another poster to relay a message or concern as Josh did a few times to me. My reasoning for Ignore is because I feel the moderator too often goes off topic with various ramblings un- related to the subject matter of the thread. So, I prefer to just ignore them and skip by their messages. I should have the right to chose who I want to read and not to read. I feel I can still help a lot of users who need computer related help via PM, such as when I tried to help you with your computer problems. So going forward when I see a tech question going unanswered I will will just PM the user and try to help them without posting online the thread. As for banning I feel unless it becomes out right obscene or disrupting the flow of conversations it should never be used. For example, zzpat who in less than 1 year posting on S.I. has already made nearly 10,500 posts and has been banned 15 times and ignored by 99 times, can be very annoying , but also occasionally has some interesting thoughts. So I have never banned him. Where you and 14 other threads have. Finally I feel moderators, putting up polls I think is interesting when it is obvious only 20-40 people on average ever respond to the poll which makes me believe that most subject mark numbers on most threads are way off. I would guess most sites only have about 20 percent tops of the viewers of their thread compared to the hundreds in totals reported. I have been active on SI since mid 1996 and 80 percent of people I have bookmarked haven’t posted in ten years or more, but still show up in numbers of subject marks. I think the subject mark numbers should be reset. So moderators could really see how little an audience they really have. Not 500-800 but maybe 20-50 in reality. Stepping down from my soap box GZ Have a excellent rest of the week. Best Don
