I spent the better part of yesterday with a pH.D microbiologist. I asked her if she'd heard about Lactobacillus reuteri and the health effects ascribed to it. She didn't put much stock in it. Her comment was that most of the bacteria probably never get past the stomach and into the intestines. Instead, they're killed off by the high acid content of the stomach.

Notwithstanding this person's views, I plan to launch my first batch of reuteri tomorrow, having established that I can make Yogurt with a commercial starter.
