Hi, Joe!

Yes, dinner first before licorice!! How was the Hercules ice show? Did your son enjoy it as much as you did? And I won't tell those grammar thread people on you. Some of those people take grammar VERY seriously, don't they? I had enough of it pounded into my head in school that I never have really wanted to revisit the subject, and as long as we can all understand each other, I feel pretty relieved that I don't have to study it or talk about it very much at all.

For some reason, your earlier discussion of licorice made me want to find out more about it (and this morning I am off to the candy store to buy some and rub my whole face in it, hopefully). Did you know that there was plenty of it in King Tut's tomb in Egypt to carry him through the afterlife? And that historically, warriors used it in battle to quench thirst? Anyway, I bookmarked a bunch of sites which you might enjoy, including a Canadian company on the web where you can order their licorice, which is actually from Holland. I really like European candy the best, but I suspect this stuff is VERY expensive. I also read about the health benefits and risks, and it looks like there is so little of the actual herb in licorice candy that there may be very little to worry about healthwise, although if you have high blood pressure you should probably check with your doctor.

Do you drink alcohol? My sister-in-law and I don't see each other very often, although we are very close emotionally, but we have developed a custom of drinking licorice liqueur whenever we are together. This started because once when she was here I was entering a cooking contest with a licorice spice cake I concocted, which was very pretty, with licorice jelly beans decorating the top. I didn't win, but there was plenty of liqueur left over, and we got pretty sloshed, as I dimly recall. Black Sambuca is my very favorite licorice drink.

Anyway, I hope you have a little fun with these urls. The licorice chunk ice cream sure sounds good, as do the licorice caramels!!!
